Where ByDesign Hydronics Works: Denver Metro and Front Range
We are a hydronics-only shop based in Littleton, and we work across the Denver metro and up into the Front Range foothills. There is no storefront and no branch office in any of the cities on this page — it is one licensed contractor and a truck, which is worth saying plainly, because it is the thing that decides how far out we can reasonably go and how fast we can get there.
What follows is where we work, what actually changes about the job as you move around the map, and where the honest answer is "call someone closer." If your town is on this list, the short version is yes. If it isn't, call and ask — the line is not a circle on a map, it's a question about drive time and what the work is.
Where is ByDesign Hydronics based?
Littleton, in Arapahoe County, right where it meets Jefferson County and Douglas County. That location is not an accident of where the owner happened to buy a house. It sits at the middle of the three counties that hold most of the Front Range's hydronic heat, and it is fifteen minutes from the foothills where the rest of it is.

What is the core service area?
The southwest metro, and it gets the fastest response by a wide margin:
• Littleton — home turf
• Ken Caryl and Columbine — including Columbine Valley and the Ken Caryl Ranch areas
• Lakewood
• Bow Mar, Sheridan, and the unincorporated pockets in between
If you are inside that ring, we can usually get eyes on a system quickly and we do not have to weigh the drive against the job.
Where else in Jefferson County do you work?
All of it, plus the foothills behind it. Jefferson County has the widest span of building eras and the widest span of elevations of any county we work in, and the heating problems change completely as you move west:
• Lakewood — mid-century ranches, single-thermostat houses that face four directions
• Wheat Ridge — 1940s–60s brick, original iron piping, and the water-quality problems that come with it
• Arvada — a small historic core, enormous mid-century tracts, and very new low-load construction out west
• Golden — turn-of-the-century masonry and the original cast iron radiators that usually should not be torn out
• Morrison and the surrounding foothills — steep, shaded driveways where snowmelt is about access, not comfort
• Evergreen — 7,000 feet and up, frequently on propane rather than natural gas
We also work Applewood, Genesee, Kittredge, Indian Hills, Idledale, Edgewater, and Conifer, and the unincorporated county around all of them.
Do you work the south metro — Arapahoe and Douglas counties?
Yes, and it is a large share of what we do.
• Greenwood Village — big houses asking one mechanical room to serve four unrelated loads
• Cherry Hills Village — long pipe runs, many bathrooms, and hot water problems that a bigger tank does not fix
• Lone Tree — new, tight, low-load housing where short cycling is the default outcome
• Castle Rock — constant new construction, which means radiant decisions that get made before the pour
• Parker and eastern Douglas County — detached shops, barns, and heated slabs on acreage
Plus Castle Pines, Roxborough Park, Foxfield, Glendale, Sedalia, Franktown, and Larkspur.
Do you work in Denver proper?
Yes. Denver is where the oldest hydronic systems in the region live, and the pre-war neighborhoods — Washington Park, Congress Park, Park Hill, Capitol Hill, Country Club, Baker, Platt Park, Berkeley, the Highlands, Sloan's Lake, Cherry Creek, Hilltop, Sunnyside, City Park — are full of houses that were heated with hot water before anyone in Colorado had heard of a furnace.
Those houses come with their own set of questions: converted systems, chimneys that were shared with a gas water heater, radiators sized for a water temperature no modern boiler wants to run. What about the north and northwest metro?
Westminster, Broomfield, Northglenn, Thornton, Commerce City, and Brighton are inside the area we serve. The drive is longer than the southwest metro, so scheduling is a real consideration on small service calls — for a design or installation project it makes no difference at all.
Boulder, Louisville, Superior, Lafayette, and Erie sit at the outer edge. We do go there, and Boulder County has a dense concentration of exactly the kind of work we do. But it is far enough that we would rather tell you honestly on the phone whether we can serve you well than take the job and be the contractor who cannot get back out.
Do you work in the mountains?
The Front Range foothills, yes — Evergreen, Conifer, Genesee, Morrison, Indian Hills, and the canyon communities behind them. Mountain work is scheduled differently than metro work, because a long unpaved driveway in a February storm is a real constraint on when anyone can reach you, and because parts runs are not a twenty-minute errand.
Past the foothills and over the divide, ask. Sometimes yes, often not, and we would rather say so than string you along.
What decides whether you'll take a job?
Three things, in this order.
Whether it is hydronics. We do boilers, radiant floors, snowmelt, indirect hot water, and the mechanical rooms that hold them. We do not do furnaces, ductwork, or air conditioning as standalone work. A shop that does everything is a shop that is very good at nothing, and this is the trade we chose.
Whether we can get to you well. A one-person shop that overcommits produces exactly one outcome, and everybody in this trade has been on the receiving end of it. If the distance means we would be a bad contractor for you, we will say that on the phone rather than after the deposit.
Whether the work is worth doing. Sometimes the honest answer is that the system you have is fine and you should leave it alone. Sometimes it is that what you are asking for will not solve the problem you actually have. We would rather have that conversation up front than sell you something.
What doesn't change, wherever you are?
The engineering. Every job starts with a room-by-room heat loss on the actual building, not a rule of thumb and not the rating plate on whatever is down there now. Front Range design loads land around 25 BTU/hr/ft² for newer tight construction and around 40 for older brick with some weatherization — which is why so much of the equipment installed around here is two to three times larger than the building it serves.
Combustion equipment loses capacity in thin air, and every city on this page is at least a mile above sea level. The altitude correction gets applied once — not zero times, which is the common error, and not twice, which is the overcorrection that follows once somebody notices.
And whatever we find, we will tell you what it is and what it would take to make it right, without a running commentary on whoever was there before.
